Media Release by the CRIIRAD.
The radioactivity of the metallic wastes in the furnace at the time of the explosion (of the Centraco plant at Marcoule on 12 September 2011) was 476 times higher that the figure published by the IRSN on the basis of declarations made by the operator SOCODEI (cf the ASN’s information note).
As early as 23 September, the CRIIRAD sent an offical letter to the authorities denouncing the incoherence of the official findings and calling on the Procureur de la République [a high-level attorney-general] to carry out measures of dose rates and laboratory analyses in order to establish what the real activity of the wastes was.
