Media Release from ACDN, 5 August 2011 On August 6 and 9 the hibakusha – the survivors of the A-Bomb – will again, for the 66th time, commemorate the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Once again they will ask the world’s leaders to do what is required to ensure that no human population can suffer such a terrible disaster in future. The hibakusha reaffirm their refusal of war and demand the abolition of nuclear weapons. Associated with this commemoration now and henceforth is the catastrophe of Fukushima. For the first time the hibakusha are asking for the planet to be rid also of nuclear power-plants. Japan, three times struck by the nuclear curse, is sending us warnings that we must heed: be it civilian or military, nuclear technology kills. All atomic survivors are merely reprieved. We must therefore impose on our governments the only policy that can solve the problem: no nuclear weapons, on nuclear plants!
