We call on the U.S. President Trump to retract His Anachronistic and Outrageous Statement June 26, 2025 On June 25, at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in The Hague, Netherlands, U.S. President Trump reportedly compared the U.S. bombing of Iran’s nuclear facilities in support of Israel’s unilateral attack to the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, stating that they were “essentially the same” in that they “ended that war.” We firmly protest against his justification of the unlawful preemptive attack on Iran by comparing it to the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The recent attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities was a unilateral armed assault by Israel and the US. Iran is a “non-nuclear weapon state” under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and has received inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This is not a question that can be compared to the consequences of the war of aggression initiated by Japan.

Then US President Truman stated that the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ended the war early. But in reality, these attacks were made on the defenseless cities as Japan had virtually lost all military strength, even though it had not yet surrendered. Most of the victims were innocent civilians. It was nothing short of an unprecedented massacre that could never be justified even under the international law of the time. History has shown that the atomic bombings marked the starting point of the nuclear arms race and conflicts that have continued to this day.
We call on President Trump to retract his anachronistic and outrageous statement and urge him to immediately cease US complicity with Israel that has continued unjustified attacks on the residents in Gaza and Iran, and to respect the international efforts for a peaceful resolution of the conflict and the abolition of nuclear weapons.
