Statement: Yasui Masakazu, Secretary General Japan Council against A and H Bombs (Gensuikyo) It was revealed that on December 18, a security policy official under the Takaichi Sanae administration stated to the press at the Prime Minister’s Office that Japan should possess nuclear weapons. As an official of the government of the world’s only nation to have suffered atomic bombings in war, and one that upholds the Three Non-Nuclear Principles as a national policy, such remarks advocating nuclear armament are absolutely unacceptable. We strongly condemn this statement and demand the immediate dismissal of the official responsible. We urge the government to reaffirm its position on the Three Non-Nuclear Principles and, at the same time, we severely question the responsibility of Prime Minister Takaichi, who appointed this official.
