Interview with Radio France-Inter

After three years of negotiation and weeks of tension the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) submitted the Iran nuclear dossier to the UN Security Council on February 4. This decision marks a turning-point in relations between Iran and the international community which suspects that Iran’s nuclear programme conceals military objectives. One of the reasons for this distrust is the wealth of natural energy resources in the country. Hadi Zamani, an Iranian economist and international consultant, believes that Iran’s energy programme can be developed without recourse to nuclear power.

Interviewer : Given Iran’s natural reserves of gas and oil, is the building of nuclear plants necessary for producing electricity ?

Hadi Zamani : The resources available in Iran for electricity production are : oil, gas, and hydroelectricity as well as other hitherto unexploited sources like solar power, wind power etc.
