We, citizens of the world, hope for the planet to be cleared of every nuclear, biological, chemical or new-technology weapon of mass destruction.

We don’t want international relations to be ruled by the threat of mass slaughter, nor do we want present or future generations to perish or have to live in a world turned radioactive and unbearable.

We don’t want the race for weapons to go on for the benefit of unscrupulous multinational companies or managers eager for power and to the detriment of the rest of humanity.

That’s why we urge the USA, Russia, the United Kingdom, China and France to honour the “unequivocal undertaking” they signed in New York on May 19th, 2000, “to accomplish the total elimination of their nuclear arsenals leading to nuclear disarmament to which all States parties are committed under Article VI” of the Non Proliferation Treaty.

Since this “unequivocal undertaking” has not yet produced even the beginnings of an effect, we urge the governments of each of these five nuclear states, and those of the other nuclear powers, to instigate real international talks and negotiations without delay in order to achieve this universal goal in a progressive, effective and strictly controlled manner. We ask our own governments to give active support to this process.

We invite the press and the audio-visual media to give these issues a prominence proportionate with the seriousness of the problem.

The planet must be set free from all weapons of mass destruction. We call upon the elected representatives, the leaders and the citizens of the world to unite around this goal in order to force its achievement.
